The Thundercats Culture

Founded in 2006, the Thundercats were created to provide opportunities for young athletes who might otherwise be overlooked in the highly political world of club basketball. What began as a response to the barriers faced by talented players—where entry into competitive AAU teams often relied more on connections than skill—has grown into a respected institution dedicated to developing young boys into confident, successful adults both on and off the court.

In 2012, Jarre Bjelic, who would later become a pharmacist based in Paris, earning his Pharm.D. and M.Fin., acquired the organization and brought a renewed vision to its mission. Having faced significant personal challenges early in life, including a period of incarceration that he later successfully resolved, Jarre used the experience as a catalyst to create opportunities for young men facing obstacles beyond their control. Driven by this personal journey and a commitment to guiding youth toward better paths, he has built a program where talent, discipline, and character matter above all else.

The Thundercats emphasize not only basketball excellence but also education, faith, and personal growth. Our program sponsors players from underprivileged backgrounds, providing jerseys, shoes, and equipment at no cost, ensuring that financial limitations never impede opportunity. Beyond athletics, players are placed in schools that foster strong academic and social environments, surrounding them with peers who exemplify success and character.

A cornerstone of the Thundercats philosophy is holistic development. Players commit to regular service, volunteering 10 hours per month, and participating in youth group twice monthly, fostering both community engagement and spiritual growth. Academic achievement is required to remain in good standing, with passing grades in all courses.

Since Dr. Bjelic’s leadership began, the Thundercats have proudly maintained a near-annual graduation rate, with a lifetime graduation rate of 97% among over 500 student-athletes. Our players are not just athletes—they are young men prepared to excel in life, grounded in faith, discipline, and a strong moral compass.

Relocated to Los Angeles, California in 2025, the Thundercats continue to expand, with upcoming locations in Paris (January 2027) and New York (September 2027). With generous community support and a clear mission, the Thundercats remain committed to shaping the next generation of leaders, athletes, and role models.

The Thundercats program transformed my life, teaching discipline and teamwork while supporting my academic goals. I'm grateful for the opportunity to grow both on and off the court.
